Institute for Environment and Resources (VNUHCM-IER) was founded in 1996 as a member of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.
IER is mandated by the Prime Minister to be responsible for Research, Post – graduate training and technology transfer in the fields of environment and resources.
IER is also recognized by MONRE (Ministry of National Resources and Environment) as a National Environmental Monitoring Station to be responsible for other duties of environment and natural resources management.

The Institute for Environment and Resources has two active campuses: the new campus opened in 2013 which locates inside the VNU-HCM urban at Dong Hoa Commune, Binh Duong province which is now the headquarter of the institute, and the former main campus in District 10, HCMC
